The Wild West Modified Tour Southern Series was formed in November of 2008. It held IMCA Modified races in California, Arizona, and Southern Nevada. Cory Simoneau took the reign as the director of the Southern Series in 2009. The series had a race tracks in Peoria, Arizona; Imperial, California; Bullhead City, Arizona; Amargosa, Nevada; Bakersfield and Watsonville, California; Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona on the inaugural series schedule. But, everyone heard some bad news as some tracks canceled their WWMT show. Hanford, California came on the schedule after Amargosa, Nevada canceled their show. Then, sad news in Phoenix was that the famed Manzanita Speedway closed its doors. The track in Prescott also canceled their race. So, the series had its fourteen race schedule with Paul Stone of Winton, California taking the trophy at the end. It was said that the series put on some of the best IMCA Modified races in the state of California and Arizona. In 2010, the series was canceled due to limited interest in the series by the tracks, drivers, and sponsors. So, Canyon Speedway Park and the WWMT teamed up to bring the CSP/WWMT Vegas Challenge, which was to try and keep some interest in the South. Now lets hope we will have a series in 2011. Hope to see you then. |
